What did you say?
I decided to create this blog after having several incidents (that I can't usually remember) happened when people up here in the north have to ask me to interpret something I said. Just recently, last night, I went to a musical (Menopause the Musical - awesome, I must say) and one of my former co-workers asked where we had parked. I said we parked in the parking deck. She asked me to repeat it. Well, having a very strong accent (and it's too late to change now) I assumed she didn't understand when I said "deck." She said, "Oh you said deck." She said something to the effect of my southern sayings. I had never thought of that one. I later told another coworker about my conversation and she said that they called it the "parking garage." Well, I've heard that but never put the two together like it was important. She asked, "What do you call where you park you car at your house?" I said, of course, "The garage!" Oh, well, go figure.
